Donaghadee Walkabout

Published on 18 May 2024 at 22:44

No, Donaghadee is not a Castle.  It does however feature The Moat - built in the 1800's supposedly to store gunpowder while they built the lighthouse and harbour  though that is disputed.

Actually that last rise is a Motte - earthen works from the 1100's for fortifications, but only the dirt is left.

It's been remarkably sunny the last few days,  so here are some shots of Donaghadee.

Today there was a community market and I've included some of the stalls. And I saw an Orange Parade.  The bands and flags, people in orange sashes were impressive, though I'm not sure what to make of it.I intend to ask my neighbours who encourage me to learn about this town where they have always lived.

The most famous part of Donaghadee, the Lighthouse.  And there is so much sand when the tide is out!
