My Wildflower Gallery
I'm discovering the wildflowers in and around the charming town of Donaghadee. As I spend my time away , I want to share the wild variety and the stunning colours of the local flora with you. It's for my own pleasure as well - a photo album as I 'collect' new varieties.
June 19 - 24. The first days of my Ireland Retreat were at a lovely rural 'cottage' (restored flax and linen mills) accommodation called Green Cottages. Peaceful, Super comfortable, room to wander, ideal for a gathering meant for conversation and reflection. Owners Jenny & Mark told us about their rocks and their plants. On the Saturday at Silent Valley in the Mourne Mountains I saw the heather and bedstraw.
June 11. There is a walking path along the shore from Donaghadee to Millisle. Discovered Yorkshire Fog, the first grassy plant. What a great name! You don't need colourful flowers to be interesting!
This is a three cornered leek. Just think what these would be like pickled!
To the right is a Gorse Bush - lots of sharp spines; I have new sympathy for Winnie-the-Pooh!
I have learned how to label my pictures so if you click on one you can learn its name.
May 31. The last day of the month and I found Cromellin Wood right here in Donaghadee- with more flowers! It's a good thing I was using my Picture This app - one attractive plant was Stinging Nettle!
May 17. This is what I've seen in just two walks - The Beauty of the Snow and the Leek were in the field where the Moat 'Castle' is. All the rest of these were on my walk at Orlock Point.
Embracing the Seasons
As I experience this long-term stay, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to witness the beauty of nature in Donaghadee. From the first signs of spring to the golden hues of autumn, I hope to capture the magic of each season. It's a different setting than the vast expanse of Algonquin, but there is so much here!
